Why "Zhu"

Named after bamboo β€” upright, unhurried, quietly strong.

Bamboo (η«Ή, zhΓΊ) stands for integrity: it bends, but never pretends to be anything other than what it is. That's the matcha we wanted to make. One ingredient, honestly named, honestly priced. The whisk that froths your cup? Also bamboo. It felt right.

Taste profile

Mellow first, umami after

Zhu opens smooth and slightly sweet, settles into a mild umami, and finishes clean and refreshing. No harsh bitterness even if your whisking technique is terrible β€” ours was too, once.

Levels describe intensity, not quality β€” a mild bar is a design choice, not a shortcoming.

From leaf to packaging

Twelve centuries of craft, four honest steps

Shaded

Weeks before harvest, the plants are covered. Less sun means more chlorophyll and L-theanine β€” the deep green, and the calm.

First harvest

Only the tender first-flush leaves of spring make the cut. Younger leaves, sweeter cup.

Stone-ground

Granite mills turn slowly β€” about 30g an hour β€” so the leaf never heats up and the flavour never burns off.

Sealed fresh

Packed in small batches and shipped from KL, so what reaches you is vivid green, not tired olive.

Before you ask

Asked by almost everyone

What makes this ceremonial grade?

First-harvest leaves, shade-grown for weeks before picking, then ground slowly on stone mills so the flavour never burns off. "Ceremonial" describes the leaf and the process β€” not a label we slap on for the price tag.

Why is this more affordable than premium imported packs?

Not because the leaf is lesser β€” because we cut the middlemen. No import markups, no famous-name premium, no distributor stacking margins on top of margins. You pay for tea, not branding.

What do your grade names actually mean?

Grades aren't regulated anywhere β€” including Japan β€” so we define ours publicly, on every listing. Every pack lists first-harvest leaves, shade-grown, stone-milled β€” the process is the point, not the label.

How many cups will 50g make?

About 25 cups at 2g per serving β€” roughly RM2.40 a cup. One pack is close to a month of daily lattes.

How should I store it?

Airtight, away from light and heat. After opening, it's happiest in the fridge and best enjoyed within 4–8 weeks β€” which, at a cup a day, won't be a problem.

What if I don't like it?

Tell us. We stand behind every batch we mill and we'll sort it out personally β€” we'd rather you try honestly than hesitate forever.

Taste it, judge for yourself

Skeptical? Good. Sip first, judge after.

We know what you've heard β€” real matcha has a certain passport. We're not here to argue. We're here to pour you a cup and let your tongue decide, at our risk, not yours.

Order your first pack

Start with your first pack β€” about RM2.40 a cup. Shade-grown, first-flush, stone-milled, made in small batches you can actually trust.

Whisk it your way

Hot and whisked, iced latte, or shaken in a bottle at your desk. Judge it on the only thing that matters: colour, aroma, and what happens on your tongue.

Decide for yourself

Love it? Welcome to the ritual. Either way, you'll know exactly what you're getting β€” no hype to live up to, no guessing games.
